Acid - Base Balance and Gas Exchange in Brook Trout ( Salvelinus Fontinalis ) Exposed to Acidic Environments
نویسنده
چکیده
Brook trout (Sahelinus fontinalis Mitchill) with a chronically implanted dorsal aortic cannula were exposed to acidic environments. During exposure, trout developed severe metabolic acidosis as shown by decreases in standard plasma bicarbonate levels as well as negative base excess values. Reduced oxygen consumption seen in acidotic trout resulted from decreased gill oxygen transfer and reduced available blood oxygen capacity.

Evaluation of otolith shape variability in hatchery-reared brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), Black Sea trout (Salmo trutta labrax) and their hybrid
In aquaculture, the process of hybridization is used to produce animals that have better growth rates, meat quality, and higher resistance and tolerance to environmental variations than their parental species. The identification of a hybrid fish may require a DNA-based technology that is an expensive process. In this study, the sagittal otolith shape of hatchery-reared brook trout (Salvelinus f...

The objective of this study was to compare growth performance and feed conversion ratios of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) juveniles in monoculture and duo-culture in freshwater and seawater under aquarium conditions. The fish were about 2-months old hatchery-reared brook and rainbow trout with initial weights of 0.934±0.033 (n=360) and 1.014±0.019 (...

Advances in genetic technology over the past two decades have provided a variety of molecular genetic marker systems that are enabling new insights into the historical and contemporary processes that influence fish biology. Genetic research on brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) and lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) in Algonquin Park is allowing us to examine issues ranging from the phylogeogra...
